Xiaomi Mi TV 4X 50-inch Review: The Mi TV 4X has a number of features that it has to pack and deliver performance, and that Xiaomi is offering a bigger screen at a reasonable price.
Many smartphone companies appear to be fulfilling their ambitions to sell smart TVs. But one company ahead of the curve was Xiaomi, which introduced its Mi TV in India last year, starting from Rs 13,000 to Rs 45,000. In just one year, the brand already claims to be number one in terms of smart TV business in India, apparently selling "2 million units in just 14 months".
The latest range of Xiaomi comes in three new size variants and price points. The larger 65-inch version is priced at Rs 54,999, the 50-inch is priced at Rs 29,999 and the 43-inch is Rs 24,999. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are inbuilt in the new Mi TVs, a feature that was missing on earlier devices. We've got a 50-inch Mi TV 4X for review, and here's what we thought about it.

Given the price of this device, Mi TV 4X has many features. It comes with 4K HDR 10 Ready LED display. It has 20W speakers with Dolby + DTS-HD. Apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are pre-loaded, which is great in the house I give, where we consume content. It also comes with the latest Android TV Pie (Android 9).
Despite 50 inches, the Mi TV certainly looks sleek and impressive. It is ultra-thin on the sides, but not wobbly if you place it on the stand. The Mi TV 4X also gives you the option of wall mounting. The stand is nothing fancy, but again it is an inexpensive TV with a big screen.

Mi TV 4X 50 Review
Given the price of this device, Mi TV 4X has many features. It comes with 4K HDR 10 Ready LED display. It has 20W speakers with Dolby + DTS-HD. Apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are pre-loaded, which is great in the house I give, where we consume content. It also comes with the latest Android TV Pie (Android 9).

The Mi TV comes with two USB 2.0 ports, three HDMI ports, an AV port and dual-band WiFi 2.4GHz / 5GHz as well as a LAN port. There is also the S / PDIF port (Sony / Philips digital interface) and RF port. The variety of ports caters to all types of goods. Another good thing is that Mi TV's system supports 13 Indian languages, while Patchwall OS supports an additional two. There is a lot of content for consumers in different parts of India, which would be appreciated.
In my house, we stopped using DTH 3 Yrs ago. The Amazon Fire TV Stick is what we primarily use to convert our old Sony to Smart TV, noting that we mostly consume content on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hotstar. This is the same mix that I tried on the Mi TV 4X as well.
The 4K streaming experience was good and even at low resolution, content streaming was good. Yes, the colors may be richer in some cases and the blacks are certainly not as dark as you would be on OLED, but then this is a much more affordable TV. The presence of this TV meant that I was definitely watching a lot of content on the big screen.
We tied up on 'The Family Man' series and finished it in one night, as well as some episodes on shows like 'The Spy', 'South Park' and 'Alsad Carbon' on Netflix. The experience was excellent every time. Needless to say, I don't think I can go back to my old Sony so easily.
I didn't have to tinker much with the settings to get the brightness right, and the default setting did a great job. And that's what you want in TV. Where Mi TV 4X struggled was when it came to upgrading old content and it was visible while watching 'Friends', when some episodes were apparently seen Pixleted.
The Mi TV Remote comes with a dedicated button for Google Assistant, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Google Assistant was a hit and miss, because sometimes it just wouldn't understand the content we wanted to play it. There is also a button for going to the Mi Patchwall Launcher, a back button, a dedicated button to turn off the TV, and volume control. There is no mute button that I would have appreciated. The Mi TV remote also has a circular button on the top, which can be used to forward content to apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc., similar to the Amazon Fire TV Stick Remote.
One issue I noticed in the software was that many times when someone used to Forword the content or hit back, the audio did not sync. This happened a lot while we were watching 'The Family Man'. I think this is a software glitch that Xiaomi has to fix. I preferred to use Android TV Interface, although PatchWall OS draws content and curates from multiple OTT apps in a large poster format. However, Android TV Launcher is easy on the eyes.
